POKÉNAMES

About Pokénames

A Pokémon word game made by one fan, for anyone who has ever argued about which Pokémon is the most “ghostly”.

Who makes it

Trent (@trentow11 on X) builds Pokénames on his own. He has spent thousands of hours with Pokémon across the main games and the trading card game, and started Pokénames after realizing Codenames only ever came with plain words or pictures.

If you enjoy it, you can support the project on Ko-fi.

What Pokénames is

A free browser game that puts all 1,025 Pokémon on a Codenames-style board. You can play solo against a Champion with an AI clue partner, or host a room for 4 to 16 friends. Matches earn Stardust for booster packs, which unlock card finishes such as Holo Rare, Full Art and ex. Battle locations such as Sky Pillar, the Altar of the Sun and Spear Pillar unlock as you play.

What is next

Items, moves, trainers and locations as optional card pools, more locations, and a version for virtual reality headsets.

Credits

Pokémon data and artwork come from PokéAPI, and trading card images from TCGdex. The game is inspired by Codenames by Czech Games Edition. Pokénames is an unofficial, noncommercial fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Creatures, GAME FREAK, The Pokémon Company or Czech Games Edition.
